PROGRAM

Customized training to meet your needs

Laughlin coaches individual paddlers and teams, both in person and online. In his online courses, paddlers are required to have a video camera so their paddling can be videotaped in-between sessions and reviewed each week.

His workshops are customized according to the level of the paddlers. He begins by assessing one's level, whether individuals or teams, and customizes a training plan based on their specific goals. Then he determines a paddler’s endurance (“mileage”) to establish their physical potential and sets up a specific interval training program.

A step-by-step process

There is no substitute for having a dedicated coach—someone who can lead you through the basics of paddling to the more advanced techniques, to help you develop the expertise to become a skilled paddler and have a sport you can enjoy for life.

Technique: The foundation of paddling

In this course, you’ll learn the essentials of technique—form, stroke, and balance. Once you learn the fundamentals, you'll experience the feel and glide of your canoe, with minimal drag, and make a true connection—with the power of the canoe, the water, the elements... and yourself. This connection is the essence of being at one with the water and reaching your full, competitive potential, or simply enjoying paddling as a fun and fulfilling experience. Countless men and women have seen the huge difference Laughlin’s coaching has made in their paddling!

“Mastering the Basics of Va’a” is hands-on coaching you can’t find in a book. It requires practice, commitment, and the desire to be at one with the water, yourself, and with your teammates, if you intend to eventually paddle on a team.
